Grace & peace!
I pray all is well with you. And I hope you stayed relatively
dry over these past 2 days. St Pauls annual worship on the lawn was
rained in for the 2nd year in a row (rained in to the parish hall, that is).
As someone said, the Mass-in-the-Grass was moved because it was
Wet-where-you-Set. So I think well plan it for August 2007, to be on the
Sunday before CSU classes begin. Despite the dampness, we shoehorned 108
into Bacon Hall, along with the 6-piece jazz band Fantazia. It was tight
but fun!
Last Thursday through Saturday the 119th annual convention of
the Diocese of Colorado was held in Denver. Sarah & Kelley helped lead
devotions for the delegates on Saturday. And Sarah, Kelley, Eric and I were
among the dozen guests of the Colorado Episcopal Foundation for Friday
dinner (at Il Fornaio) with keynote speaker Nathan Dungan. Of course a
convention has display tables, and ours was right by the big curved
staircase in the Hyatt lobby. All of the Episcopal campus ministries in CO
were represented CSU, CU, UNC & Mines. So we each spent some time at the
table talking with interested folks. We gave away a bunch of our famous
yellow cups imprinted with Robin Williams Top 10 Reasons to be an
Episcopalian! The Bishop loved his
We had a great getaway to Professor John Roberts cabin near
Estes back on Oct 1. 9 of us enjoyed a picnic lunch, time on the deck in
the sun, and a zesty round of Trivial Pursuits, Genus 4. Did you know that
Canada is the worlds leading produced of maple syrup? Sarah, Erin, Eric,
Kelley, Bill, Siri, Bryan, John & I had a wonderful time.
Tonight at 7 pm we begin holding a student-led worship service
at St Pauls. It will be the feast of St Philip. Plans are to develop an
evening that will include a 6:30 session of Qigong (energy practices),
Eucharist, and a stone soup supper after. Sarah, what are the plans for
tonight? If you can, please attend and consider getting involved in
leading! The dream is for the Episcopal young adults & students to gather
in worship weekly. Please help make it work
This Friday the brothers from Taizé, John & Leandro, will be on
campus. Youre invited to the North Ballroom of the LSC at 10 am to visit
with them. I met John in 1998, so I know he is pretty awesome. All the
brothers seem to exude a peaceful calm, and their mission is to share it.
Taizé-style worship will be held at the ballroom at 2 pm and again at 4:30
pm. This is open to everyone, so bring friends. This should be an amazing
day
On a related note, Im learning about 2 possible group trips to
Taizé next year, in May and in August. Ill get info to you as soon as I
have it
And add to your calendar: the Funky Formal at the Lutheran
campus ministry center on December 2 (time to be announced). This will be a
party, with a DJ & dancing. The more the merrier, says Pastor Connie.
We should have dates and times for future events real soon God
& Coffee breaks at Morgan Library, Sunday dinners, special events and Exam
Week Open House. Youll get the news here
Blessings in Christ,
Rob+
PS. Would you like dinner on Saturday, Oct 21? Itll be a big day at
St Pauls. In the AM there will be a Quiet Day honoring Fr Hiram Kano, a
saint of local remembrance. A Quiet Day (8:30 12:30) is a time to hear
meditations, spend time in prayer and silence, walk the labyrinth, and to
just basically unhook from everyday stuff. You can come to all or part of
the day.
At 5 PM our monthly Saturday thing worship service will be
held in the church. This months theme is Celtic worship. Every month we
explore a different form of worship to better learn what touches our souls.
So the music, prayers and perspective this time will come from the
earth-based faith of our Christian forebears in Ireland.
At 6 PM St Pauls will hold its annual Celebration dinner. All
are welcome make a reservation with Linda @ 482-2668. This will be a nice
prime rib dinner, followed by a PowerPoint presentation on the events of the
past year in and around St Pauls (including the ECM). Well also look
ahead at the needs of St Pauls (and ECM) in the coming year. The catch?
Youll get a pledge card. :-) What you do with it is between you & God.
Hope to see you then
