Wintry greetings!
As the snow gently falls and we stay indoors with our lattes and cocoa, I pray God’s blessings upon you. Fellowship also warms the heart, and we’ve got some Episcopal Campus Ministry opportunities in the near & far future.
God & Coffee tomorrow at the library lobby, 9:30 – 10:30 AM. Just an op to chat about things important & not so much. Drop by & say HI to Sarah & me.
Bible Study will resume next Tuesday, Feb 21, 7 PM, at Gwyneth’s place in Ram’s Pointe (W Elizabeth @ Taft Hill Rd). “Knowing Jesus: Foundations of Faith” is the theme, and it’s not nearly as square as it sounds. Contact Gwyn at 481-6436 or andrewsg at simla.colostate.edu
Our monthly dinners will continue on Sunday, Feb. 26 with some New Orleans-style Creole gumbo and rice, as prepared by Barbara Fasterling of St Paul’s. She and husband Charlie are native New Orleanians (?), and Barb told me she makes a killer gumbo. The Fasterling are also having authentic King Cakes imported from NO for desert. How can you pass it up?
St Paul’s will hold a traditional Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 28 from 5 – 7 PM. “All the pancakes you care to eat” for just $3. Also includes fixings, sausage, applesauce, coffee & juice. Face-painting & beads are rumored to be part of the evening. Any profit we make will go to Habitat for Humanity of Ft Collins. This will be a great night to take a friend to dinner. Be a big shot – treat the gang!
Ash Wednesday is March 1 this year. Services at 7 AM, Noon, and 7 PM. Holy Eucharist and the optional Imposition of Ashes are offered at all 3.
Need a break around the end of March? Province VI Campus Ministry of the Episcopal Church will hold a retreat near Spearfish, SD (in the Black Hills) March 31 – April 2. Students from several universities & colleges will be there. Jeremiah 17:7-8 is the scripture for the weekend…. “like a tree planted by the water”. The Rev. Linda Kramer, who is the Executive Director for Borderlands Ranch (www.borderlandsranch.org <http://www.borderlandsranch.org/> ), and Ben, who works with her, will be the keynote speakers. Linda practices both Lakota and Celtic heritage and spirituality and is the adopted daughter of a former Episcopal priest and Lakota elder. They will introduce those attending to some of the Lakota ways of worship, their spirituality, with a tie into our Baptismal promises. There’s lots of free time and recreation built into the time. I’ve never been, but I’m told that it’s both fun and meaningful. If you’re interested please let me know ASAP – I’m supposed to send in a number by Feb 21 if we’re going. I’ll drive – and there will be very little, if any, cost to you. To check the facility see www.spfcanyou.com <http://www.spfcanyou.com/>
And check below for a national opportunity this summer, from the Episcopal Peace Fellowship:
